Valentine's Day

Garry Marshall’s new film, "Valentine’s Day", was a bit of a disappointment. The film takes place present day in California on Valentine’s Day and how everyone in the movie spends their holiday. It had a lot of adorable moments and of course mushy love moments but hey, the title is Valentine’s Day its what people expect! I enjoyed the fact that it portrayed love from all different ages, all the way from 5th grader, Edison, played by Bryce Robinson, to his grandma Estelle, who the delightful Shirley MacLaine portrayed. Most of the movie is a mystery of how certain people are intertwined and who will be with whom in the end.
The film is filled with big name stars such as Julia Roberts, Shirley MacLaine, Kathy Bates, Ashton Kutcher, Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Gardner, and Jessica Alba just to name a few. But unfortunately the plot was too confusing and the storylines didn’t seem to mesh well with everyone’s characters. It seemed as though it was poorly put together. It was also disappointing because of the fact that there are so many famous big time stars in this film that the caliber of talent in this movie should have been amazing. But since every character was miniscule to the plot the acting was mediocre and the writing was quite corny. No one really shined, which I understand that it was an ensemble cast but there was no character that anyone could truly care for since there was so much going on. There were too many subplots that it made it very difficult to fully enjoy this film or the characters being portrayed in the film.
If you are just looking to see a sweet but dull film on Valentine’s Day with your boyfriend/girlfriend or with a bunch of your friends than this might be the one to see. The confusing plot does comes together in the end, so in order to understand every story line make sure you stay awake for the ending.
