10 Things I Hate About You

The 1999 classic teen movie, "10 Things I Hate About You" stars Julia Stiles, Heath Ledger, Larisa Oleynik, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Andrew Keegan, Gabrielle Union, and David Krumholtz. It is a movie that for some reason you can't just watch once. It is based off William Shakespeare's play "The Taming of the Shrew" but set in modern day at a California high school.

It starts off with Cameron, Joseph Gordon-Levitt's character, being new to the school and getting a tour of the campus by Michael, played by David Krumholtz. Michael also shows him the different cliques that attend the school. Throughout the tour of cliques he spots Bianca (Larisa Oleynik) and falls instantly in love. Bianca is annoying, immature and selfish but Cameron wants to date her because he sees her as beautiful, sweet, and pure. But problems arise because Bianca isn't allowed to date because her father is crazy over protective and creates a rule that Bianca can't date until Kat, Bianca's sister, played by Julia Stiles, dates. Kat is outspoken, rude and outright mean and no one is willing to date her.

Cameron is so in love with Bianca he is willing to do whatever it takes to take her out. So Michael and Cameron devise a plan to have Joey (Andrew Keegan) pay Patrick (Heath Ledger)to date Kat. Joey is a rich model who is conceited and ridiculous but he is also quite dumb because he thinks he is paying Patrick to date Kat so HE could date Bianca. But, the plan goes awry and things take a turn for the worse.

I love this movie. The characters are so ridiculous, its interesting. Andrew Keegan's character is a self absorbed rich snob but he plays it so well! Heath Ledger's performance of Patrick is really fun to watch, because its so outlandish, he is this "scary" guy that apparently does all sorts of crazy things like eat a live duck and sell his liver, but he's intriguing. Ledger made an unlikeable character lovable. Julia Stiles delivered a great performance as angst ridden teen Kat. She is always angry that its funny, but again she is likable. Bianca is somewhat annoying but that is who she is supposed to be. You see two sides of her which is really great, and Cameron is lovable from the start.

I think you're missing out if you've missed this 90s teen hit. It's a fun, light comedy that I would recommend to anyone.  So I made a list of my own on why I love this film and maybe this could help you decide on whether you should check it out or not.

10 Things I Love about 10 Things I Hate About You

1. The obnoxious spoiled characters
2. They have an English teacher that raps
3. They have a guidance counselor who writes adult novels
4. It's based off of a William Shakespeare play
5. Kat and Bianca have a ridiculous dad
6. It may not have depth but it has heart
7. It has the late Heath Ledger in it
8. It's simple but so entertaining
9. It has awesome 1 liners ("I'm thinking of getting a Tercel. Yeah, that's a Toyota" "Alright, wait a minute. No drinking, no drugs, no kissing, no tattoos, no piercings, *no* ritual animal slaughters of any kind. Oh, God, I'm giving them ideas" "Should you be drinking if you don't have a liver?"and "Where did you come from? Planet "Loser"? "As opposed to Planet "Look At Me, Look At Me"? )

10. And last but not least its a high school comedy made in the 90s, can't get any better than that unless of course it's a high school comedy made in the 80s.
