The Losers

"The Losers" center on 5 members of an an elite U.S. Special Forces unit sent into the Bolivian jungle on a search and destroy mission. The 5 elite members are Clay (Jeffrey Dean Morgan), Jensen (Chris Evans), Roque (Idris Elba), Pooch (Columbus Short) and Cougar (Óscar Jaenada). During their mission they realize they were set up by a powerful enemy that only goes by the name "Max" (Jason Patric). After the mission goes awry the members make it look like they had died in a wreckage and presumed dead. After months pass, Clay meets a gorgeous woman named Aisha(Zoe Saldana) who wants revenge on Max just as much as the rest of the guys. They set up a plan to get their revenge and attempt to strike back.
This movie, for me, was a pleasant surprise. I went into it knowing that it was based off a comic, starring the guy from the Watchmen, and the girl from Avatar and it was filled with violence. But, it was so much more. It was fascinating, funny, sentimental, and of course, action packed.

Fascinating, because the audience is constantly wondering how the members will get out of situations or into situations. How they get from point A to point B. Some of the members have specific skills that are unique to the unit. Jensen has expertise in high tech, Pooch's skills are transport and heavy weapons and Cougar's a sharp shooter. It's enjoyable to watch them plan out their attacks and use their skills that never fail.

"The Losers" is actually quite comical. Jensen, is this goofy guy that doesn't seem as smart as he really is. He looks like an average Joe but his knowledge of computers and his strength and agility are incredible and surprising. The 5 guys have really great chemistry. Their friendships are genuine and even when there are serious moments happening they still manage to joke. The writing in the film, and I'm sure in the comic, is great. It's witty and fun. I think the fact that it was so light-hearted made me enjoy it all the more.

It was also somewhat sentimental. There are crucial parts in the film, that could cause a slight tear, maybe. But, I like when movies have that factor. I enjoy movies that can make me feel all emotions and for a violent action movie it did just that.

The action was great. A little over the top but enjoyable. The film was rated PG-13 so it wasn't anything too bad. I'm sure if it had been rated R the violence would've been a lot worse but might have been more appealing to audiences.

The acting was also great. The characters were believable and interesting. I enjoyed the evil Max character. That guy was a real jerk that it made some scenes almost funny about how ridiculous he was.

The only thing I didn't like was the ending. It ended pretty abruptly and open ended. Not everything is summed up which really irked me but I hope they have a sequel so at least the audience can be satisfied.

I think that if you like action comedies with a comic-book feel you will really enjoy "The Losers." It is a good sitting on the edge of your seat revenge story.
