Remember Me....how can I forget?

Robert Pattinson's newest film, "Remember Me," is incredible. I went into it thinking it was going to be a romantic drama between Pattinson and Emilie de Ravin, but it was so much more. It starts off gritty and intense with a little girl witnessing her mother's murder at a nearby subway station. It then flashes foward 10 years later with the little girl as a 21 yr old NYU student, named Ally and whose father is a cop. Switch to Pattinson's character, which is Tyler Hawkins, who lives in a dirty apartment with his best friend, Aiden (played by Tate Ellington) and who also attends NYU. One night after Tyler and Aiden go out drinking they witness some guys beating up a few other guys and Tyler steps in. The cops come to arrest everyone and when Tyler tries to explain to the cop that 2 guys are innocent the cop tells him to get lost. Tyler in turn gets violent and the cop retailiates and then arrests him. That cop is Stg Neil Craig, aka Ally's father, played by Chris Cooper. Aiden finds out that Stg. Craig has a daughter and convinces Tyler to date her to get back at her father. He does, but of course he falls for her. This film, isn't about their "romance" or them falling in love. It's about their relationships with the other people in their life and how to cherish and treasure every day of your life, because you never know when one day will be your last day.

What I found very entertaining and interesting, was Tyler and Ally's relationships with their family. After tragedy hit Tyler's family as well, him and his father Charles Hawkins (played by Pierce Brosnan) have a very difficult relationship. Charles is distant, serious and actually quite intimidating and its sad to see their relationship so strained. Charles's and Tyler's relationship isn't the only one thats tarnished.Tyler has a younger sister named Caroline, played by Ruby Jerins, who is absoultely adorable, but also feels as though her father hates her and never wants to spend any time with her. But Tyler and Caroline's  brother-sister connection was intriguing and so much fun to watch. He protected her at times like an older brother would, and it is beyond entertaining.
I thought Robert Pattinson was truly great, he made me feel what his character felt, and thats what a good actor is supposed to achieve in their work. His charater was this low maintanced, chain smoker who wrote in this little note pad in a coffeeshop throughout most of his day. He didnt seem to care about anything until Ally. His on-screen love interest Emilie de Ravin delievered a fine performance as well. She had great chemistry with Pattinson and her interaction with his family is natural and genuine. Pierce Brosnan portrays the dad who is suffering on the inside but no one in the film can really tell. He comes off as a tough-guy who seems heartless and only cares about money and power. Brosnan's performance was enjoyable along with that of Chris Cooper's.
My favorite character in the film would have to be Caroline. Ruby Jerins was smart, artistic and she talked like an adult. Jerins, was likable and even though her role was small, her performance was huge. She, like Pattinson, made me feel every emotion her character was going through.
These characters were all likable, I felt like I cared deeply for them and when the ending occurs I'm even more sympatheitc to them. There is a huge twist in the film that comes out of nowhere and leaves everyone in the audience grabbing for tissues. Its definitely unforgettable and I will remember, "Remember Me" as one of the best films of 2010. I recommend this film to anyone who enjoys drama, a little bit of romance, and suspense.
