The Lovely Bones!!!

'The Lovely Bones' stars Saoirse Ronan as a young 14 year old girl named Susie Salmon who is murdered in December of 1973. She narrates throughout the whole movie and watches over her family and her creepy murderer while she stays in between heaven and earth. She has unfinished business on earth which forces her not to advance into heaven just yet. Mark Wahlberg stars as Jack, Susie's father, and after he learns that Susie is missing he goes on a hunt to find out what happened and who killed her. The film is based off the novel of the same name written by Alice Sebold.

The film starts off great, the audience is learning about this young couple Jack (Wahlberg) and Abigail(Weisz) who raise their children in Pennsylvania in the 1970s. They have three children Susie, Lindsey and Buckley. On December 6, 1973 Susie never made it home. She was murdered by a creepy, sick man and her soul or being is left in between heaven and earth, or what I thought was purgatory because there were parts that seemed like heaven and parts that seemed like hell but they never said hell they said earth.

Throughout most of the film the audience is on the edge of their seat in suspense waiting to see how the story will unfold and if Susie's family will finally uncover what happened to her and who murdered her.

The acting was great in this film, Mark Wahlberg was captivating as a young father who will do just about anything to find his daughter. Rachel Weisz was great too along with Susan Sarandon who plays Weisz's mother. They both were interesting characters and I enjoyed that Wahlberg and Weisz's characters didn't cope with their daughter's death the same. It was more realistic and more heartfelt to watch two parents mourn for the loss of their child in different ways. I personally thought Stanley Tucci stole the show as their skeezy neighbor, George Harvey. His presence didn't make you feel safe or comfortable at all, and there is one part in particular that I had a very hard time watching because it was too suspenseful for me.

Peter Jackson did an excellent job showing Susie's new world. Majority of his shots were gorgeous. He has an unbelievable imagination and is beyond creative in his film making. Although this film was quite a disappointment for me, Jackson made it interesting because of this wonderful world he creates.

I loved the whole movie up until the end, so I would definitely recommend this film to someone who enjoys Peter Jackson-even though it's no Lord of The Rings or King Kong, but I think everyone knows that- and anyone who loves a good suspenseful murder mystery. If you have seen this film please share your thoughts and your opinion on how you felt about the film and the awful ending. Also if you read the book I'm interested to know if it is similar to the film, so please share your thoughts!
