The 2009 film, 'It's Complicated' stars the legendary Meryl Streep as a divorced mother of three named Jane, who reunites with her married ex-husband, Jake (Alec Baldwin). But, the complication doesn't end there, she is also seeing Adam, (Steve Martin) who is also divorced. Jane is torn between reigniting the flame with her ex-husband and father of her three children and letting go, moving on and having fun with a new funny guy. Can she reignite the fire with an old flame and be the mistress to her exhusband or take her chances with a new interesting guy?
'It's Complicated' was great. I thoroughly enjoyed this film, but there were a lot of slow parts. It held my attention enough to see how things would pan out and not let me change the channel, but some parts were a little boring.
The acting was phenomenal, but anyone would know that just by looking at the three main stars, Meryl Streep, Steve Martin and Alec Baldwin. Streep portrays Jane beautifully in which she is truly going through a constant struggle as to what she should do and if she is doing the right thing and making the right choices for herself and for her kids. She's delightful, captivating to watch and just outright mesmerizing in her performance. Streep, can pretty much portray anyone and be remarkable.
Martin is wonderful, as well. He portrays this sweet, loveable artchitect that just wants to meet a nice woman and grow old with her after going through a trecherous divorce. His portrayal of this lonely, hardworking character is fun to watch, I definitely was rooting for his character to get the girl, and looking foward to all of his scenes. Martin, is never a disappointment.
Baldwin, was of course the cheating husband of Jane which lead to their divorce and then he married an incredibly young woman who has an annoying five year old son. He was jealous of Adam and Jane's friendship and envious that Jane has her own life now that all their children are grown up. He was great in portraying the sleezy, cheating husband and the loving father at the same time. Their chemistry was great and believable.
The actors that portrayed the children, Luke (Hunter Parrish), Gabby (Zoe Kazon), Lauren (Kaitlin Fitzgerald) were dreadful. I love when movies have a bunch of young adult children that showcase their family life, but these actors were not good. Parrish was way too over the top and Kazon and Fitzgerald were not believable and annoying to watch. I was even disappointed with John Krasinski's portrayal of Harley-Lauren's fiance' he wasn't believable and also a little over the top. Maybe it was the writing but it was horrible watching the scenes with them in it.
The storyline was interesting, somewhat unique but I think the actors (Streep, Baldwin, and Martin) of that caliber could do way better. Still, the ending was quite predicatable but exactly how I had hoped it would end.
I would recommend this film to anyone who wants to see a romantic comedy with some of Hollywood's greats. If you have seen 'It's Complicated' please share your thoughts!!!
