Superheroes Invade Movie Theaters

The start of an epic summer, filled with great blockbuster films is upon us. It all begins this weekend with the all star cast of Marvel Studios’ latest superhero flick, The Avengers. It is the first major superhero film of the summer season, and is expected to be a huge success. Almost every actor/actress is back to reprise their role in the assembly of good versus evil. The film is directed by Joss Whedon and stars Chris Evans as Captain America, Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man, Chris Hemsworth as Thor, Tom Hiddleston as Loki, Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury, Gwyenth Paltrow as Pepper Pots, and Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow. Newcomers to the superhero genre are actors Mark Ruffalo and Jeremy Renner. Ruffalo will be portraying the The Hulk and Renner will be Hawkeye. The star-studded cast has moviegoers everywhere flocking to the theaters this coming weekend, and has movie critics raving about it already.
The Avengers is just the beginning for comic book fans this summer. Coming July, comic and movie buffs will have the pleasure of seeing two huge superhero films. The first one is The Amazing Spider-Man, directed by Mark Webb (no pun intended) and starring Andrew Garfield in the title role. The film is not a sequel but a reboot. The Amazing Spider-man also stars Emma Stone as Gwen Stacie, Martin Sheen and Sally Field as Ben and May Parker and Rhys Ifans as the Lizard. The film is centered around Peter Parker trying to discover the reason his parents disappeared when he was young.

Then, not even three weeks later, Batman fans will rush to theaters to catch the third and final installment of director Christopher Nolan’s Batman franchise, The Dark Knight Rises. The film features Christian Bale, Michael Caine, and Gary Oldman and welcomes newcomers Anne Hathaway, Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Tom Hardy. On July 20, 2012 it will mark four years (and two days to be exact) since the second film, The Dark Knight, premiered. Heath Ledger, who portrayed the Joker in The Dark Knight, unfortunately passed away before the film even came out. His performance was so incredible it earned him an Academy Award for Best Actor, and had a lot of people questioning as to whether there would be a third film after Ledger’s perfect, unbeatable performance. Four years later, Nolan and cast are back and ready to hopefully fulfill Batman enthusiasts’ expectations.
