The time has finally arrived. It has been ten years almost to the day that Robert Downey Jr. emerged on screen as “genius, billionaire, playboy, philanthropist” Tony Stark also known by his “made up name” Iron Man. The man that started the Marvel Cinematic Universe on this decade long ride of blockbuster hits that have broken tons of box office records year after year. Here he is again, in his 8th film portraying the iconic man with the heart of steel, Iron Man and helping his friends on another impossible feat.
Avengers: Infinity War takes place right after Thor: Ragnarok ends. Evil villain Thanos (portrayed by Josh Brolin) is determined to obtain all six infinity stones, which could give him all the power in the universe at his fingertips. With just a snap of his fingers he could disintegrate half of the world’s population. Can Thanos conquer this malicious mission or will the Avengers and friends stop him before it’s too late?

The film starts off with Thanos forcefully trying to get the Space Stone extracted from the Tesseract from Loki (portrayed by Tom Hiddleston). After putting up a brave fight, especially by the Hulk (portrayed by Mark Ruffalo), Thanos achieves his goal, but not after leaving the superheroes with something to avenge. Right from the get-go, the film is thrilling and somewhat emotional. It sets the tone for the rest of the movie and leaves the audience members excited for what’s to come.
As Thanos is attempting world domination, certain Avengers team up with other superheroes such as Spiderman (portrayed by Tom Holland) and the cast from Guardians of the Galaxy (Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Bradley Cooper, Vin Diesel, and Dave Bautista), also Blank Panther (Chadwick Boseman), Dr. Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch), winter soldier (Sebastian Stan), and countless others to conjure up a plan to stop Thanos and essentially save the universe. The scenes with the Guardians of the Galaxy cast especially are comical and more lighthearted, and add that fun, classic feel audiences know and love about these films to the highly anticipated flick.
The film although is filled with action, and tons of edge of your seat type of moments, it still unfortunately falls flat. Avengers:Infinity War has a lot of build up to basically nothing. Knowing that there is a sequel slated to open next May, the long awaited for blockbuster ends on an unnerving cliffhanger, leaving the audience to have to wait a whole year to see how everything will end. And if you’re anything like me, and waited to see all these characters come together for at least one scene, that never happens. Even the original five Avengers are never in one scene together. Also disappointing is the fact that the Hulk only appears in one scene, it was quite frustrating to never have the ability to watch favorite characters come together, especially how some left off, such as Tony Stark and Steve Rogers after Tony found out about Steve knowing who killed his parents, they never have a conversation in this film let alone screen time.
There are some funny lines and comical moments that make the film enjoyable. Certain characters teaming up together create an interesting dynamic and is fun to watch, but being that the anticipation was so high for this film; it in my opinion never hits the mark.
In conclusion, Avengers: Infinity War is a must see if you are a fan of the Marvel films, comics and characters. Now having seen this film, the hype for the sequel will most likely be doubled in size, so this film needs to be seen in order to catch the continuation of the story next year. The film is recommended for anyone who enjoys action, light comedy, and the thought that in just one short year this could potentially be the end of some of our favorably adored characters’ stories that have graced us these past ten years with excitement, entertainment, and the escape of reality that we search for, that we rely on when entering that dark theater on opening night with fellow movie goers alike.
