Bradley Cooper wrote, directed and starred in the 2018 Oscar worthy drama, A Star is Born. Cooper recreated the modern day reboot, with a vision of pop star turned actress Lady Gaga in the title role. The film starts out with Ally, (Gaga) an aspiring singer, working in a restaurant during the day trying to make ends meet, and moonlighting as a singing “drag queen” at a drag night club. Jackson Mayne (Cooper) is a famous country music star, touring around the country that unfortunately suffers from alcoholism. When he finishes his performance one night he decides he needs a drink and doesn’t care where he gets his fix. His driver drops him off in front of the drag club where he just so happens to hear Ally perform her solo. Mayne is astounded by Ally’s remarkable voice and performance, and offers her the chance of a lifetime, to go on tour with him. Ally decides to drop everything and run away with Mayne, but doesn’t realize that stardom isn’t what it’s all cracked up to be. Can Jack teach Ally everything he knows about the business, can she survive the pressure and endure the limitations that fame and fortune come with or will she thrive as a brand new artist the world hasn’t met yet?
A Star is Born, is filled with drama, romance, music, and tragedy. Gaga and Cooper’s chemistry is evident from the first moment their eyes met on camera in the film. These two tragic characters are perfect for each other; they both share a passion for music and are both hopelessly in love with the other. They strive to make themselves better for the other.
Cooper not only learned to sing, but also learned to play the guitar for this demanding musical role. Cooper’s commitment to this character is Oscar worthy. He has showcased how incredibly talented he can be, and how there is no role or obstacle he cannot overcome when it comes to achieving great heights for his craft. Gaga was awe-inspiring. Her performance was incredible. She stripped down to looking like a normal, average girl and although she had the music qualities down for the role, she committed whole heartedly to the raw emotions, and the drama to portray this tragically powerful woman.
The music in the film is beautiful, and now playing on radios throughout the world. This age old classic has been transformed and reconstructed to suit modern day, and Cooper did a fantastic job conveying this once tired story into a captivating drama that audiences everywhere can enjoy and relate to.
In conclusion, A Star is born, is highly recommended to anyone that enjoys films filled with love, drama, and music. Also, recommended to anyone that appreciates work involving Bradley Cooper and newcomer film star, Lady Gaga and the thought that money and fame can only go so far, addiction is a debilitating disease, and love sometimes doesn’t conquer all.
