The Karate Kid

The 1984 classic entitled, "The Karate Kid" is a film that no 80s kid missed. It stars Ralph Macchio, as Daniel-Daniel son-La Russo as a regular kid from Jersey who unwillingly has to move to California with his mother. He unfortunately is an instant outsider and falls for the popular pretty girl in school, Ali, played by Elisabeth Shue.

Daniel befriends Ali, but when he gets too close, Ali's ex-boyfriend Johnny steps in. Johnny is a karate student along with all of his friends, who also dislike Daniel and decide to beat him up on several occasions. Daniel becomes somewhat afraid and distances himself from that clique of people and hangs around with his only friend, a world war 2 vet and karate master, Mr. Miyagi, played by Pat Morita.

Mr. Miyagi attempts to help Daniel with his bullies by showing up to their karate class and demanding that if Johnny and Co. stop beating up Daniel, Daniel will fight at the next karate tournament. His wish is granted and the rest of the movie is very interesting to watch as he trains for the big match.

I absolutely adore this film! Ralph Macchio and Elisabeth Shue's chemistry is a delight to watch and the friendship that grows between Daniel son and Mr. Miyagi is wonderfully beautiful to see as it unfolds on screen. This fun, feel good movie is definitely recommended for the whole family! If you enjoy 80s movies, karate, and teenagers fight or fall in love than this is the movie to see! Rent it today or be sure to look for your local listings on when it will be playing on television next!
