The Michael Gondry directed film, 'The Green Hornet' is unlike any other superhero action flick. The film stars the goofy, funny guy Seth Rogen as Britt Reid/The Green Hornet and Jay Chou as Kato. They aspire to be 'vigilante superheroes' but they actually have no idea what they are doing and who to even save. Their plan in the beginning is to come off as bad guys but save everyone in the end, but as usual things don't always go according to plan. There is a girl in this story, Lenore Case, (Cameron Diaz) but she is definitely no damsel in distress, she is actually the brains behind the whole operation, making the film even more interesting to watch. Kato and Britt's plan backfires and the city is starting to turn into ruins due to evil drug lord, Chudnofsky (Christophe Waltz) who decides to create an army of people to try and take down The Green Hornet and his sidekick Kato. Can Chudnofsky get his way or will The Green Hornet and Kato get together and actually save the day?
'The Green Hornet' was such a pleasant surprise for me. I absolutely loved this film. It had action, humor and fun all rolled into a superhero film. Seth Rogen was great, he was funny but had such a wonderful vulnerable side that really made this character in particular unique. Jay Chou was doubly great, he can really do anything and everything. He also had nice comedic timing. His accent made it a little difficult to understand but other than that I thought he was awesome. He was more than a sidekick in this film, he was a superhero as well and a really great confidante to Britt. Cameron Diaz was a smart, sweet woman but she was strong and not afraid to voice her opinion at all. I loved that her character didn't need to be rescued or saved or had to fall in love with anyone. She was someone the superheroes run to in need of help and I really liked that. Christoph Waltz was unbelievable which should be no surprise since his role in Quentin Tarrantino's 'Inglorious Basterds' as the evil Colonel Hans Landa garnered him an Academy Award last year. But, in this film he wasn't as serious, some of his scenes were actually quite comical which was nice to witness after seeing him in a film that I think everyone wanted to hate him in.
The story line was interesting, it had some twists which were unpredictable for me. I never read the comics or knew the story so everything was completely new and surprising for me. After Britt's dad dies he has the power to take over his father's business which is one of the largest newspaper companies in the city. But, things start to get exciting when he decides he wants more out of life than just partying and sleeping with girls. He takes action with Kato and takes a wild ride to a memorable adventure.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys superhero films, action, Seth Rogen and comedy. If you have seen this film please share your thoughts or opinions without giving anything away!!!
