Blue Valentine!!!

Director Derek Cianfrance's 'Blue Valentine' is a peek into the realistic view of a rocky marriage in today's world. Ryan Gosling and Michelle Williams star as Dean and Cindy, husband and wife who have a young child and are struggling to keep their marriage alive. Williams portrays Cindy as a smart, motivated nurse who strives to better herself and care for her family. Gosling portrays Dean as a laid back, lazy painter who is in capable of being a mature adult. Can Dean and Cindy fight to save their marriage for the sake of their little girl, Frankie or will it just spiral downwards like majority of the marriages in today's day and age?

I enjoyed this film, but I was a little disappointed with the storyline. The best part about this film is that the dialogue and the shots of this movie could not be more real. I honestly felt like I was a part of these people's lives. Their dialogue and their reactions were so realistic it was almost as if I was watching reality TV, but a million times better. I absolutely adored that aspect of it, but I didn't care too much for the story mainly because there wasn't much of one. Cianfrance had an incredible vision for this film and a wonderful way for the audience to observe his vision but there really wasn't too much to see. Cindy and Dean are an unhappy married couple and from time to time there are flashbacks to when they first met and when Cindy got pregnant and when they got married and obviously these were mostly happy times, but Cianfrance fails to show the audience why they are so unhappy. What happened? Where did their relationship go wrong? Sure, there are small issues but neither Cindy nor Dean seem to let it bother them enough or at least convey it to the audience that this is a problem or this is why they aren't happy or working out. They definitely have their moments that are filled with both anger and sadness but also love, which was nice because by showing us the sadness and anger with the love made it all the more real. But I think if I knew why their relationship was unstable I think I would've loved this film.
The acting was truly remarkable. Gosling and Williams had tremendous chemistry and they were both an absolute delight to watch. Gosling was romantic and fun and Williams was realistic and sweet. These two actors carried this entire film beautifully, they are basically the only two people the audience watches throughout the film and it was never boring or frustrating. I wanted more. The film ends with the audience craving for more.
I highly recommend this film to anyone who enjoys a serious, realistic film that contains great acting and a unique way of viewing a film of this nature. If you have seen 'Blue Valentine' please share your thoughts and opinions without giving anything away!!!
