‘X-Men: First Class’ is directed by Matthew Vaughn and stars James McAvoy, Michael Fassbender, Kevin Bacon, and Jennifer Lawrence. The film is a prequel to the ‘X-Men’ series and focuses on Charles Xavier (McAvoy) and how he obtained his first class of mutants. Erik Lehnsherr (Fassbender) is on a mission to avenge his mother’s death but he unfortunately cannot fight off Sebastian Shaw (Bacon) all by himself. However, he dislikes Charles’ morals and the way that he works with the mutants, so it leaves him with a bit of a dilemma. Can Erik avenge his mother’s death with Charles and the rest of the mutants or will he fight by himself and risk everything?
‘X-Men: First Class’ was awesome. The actors were incredible. James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender were truly amazing in their roles and stood out over everyone. Kevin Bacon portrayed a great villain. The characters were thoroughly developed and intriguing. Every character was enticing and interesting in their own way and each actor created that attraction for the audience.
There was never a dull moment in ‘X-Men: First Class’; it was action-packed, character-driven and fun. Comic book films are sometimes hit or miss and what is enjoyable about ‘X-Men: First Class’ is the fact that it has so many different elements inside of it to make it a completely brilliant story. It is filled with heart, seeing the pain and anguish Erik goes through when his mother dies and, as he is older and reliving it, it is heartbreaking. Watching Charles become fascinated with each and every new mutant and learning their skills is astounding. Also, Raven (Jennifer Lawrence) struggling to deal with her blue abnormal body is tragic, yet hopeful. Discovering every character’s purpose and being introduced to them throughout the film was perfectly displayed.
It is highly recommended to comic fans, people that enjoy a well rounded action packed superhero film, and people who enjoy an all around great story and character development.
