Snow White and the Huntsman!!!

"Snow White and the Huntsman” is a beautiful twist on the classic fairy tale. The film is directed by Rupert Sanders and stars Kristen Stewart and Chris Hemsworth in the title roles. Charlize Theron stars as the beautifully evil queen, Ravenna. The film centers on a young woman with “skin white as snow, lips red as blood, and hair black as ebony” born to a noble King and elegant Queen. When her mother dies when Snow is just a young girl, her father meets an enchanting woman who soon becomes his wife. The night the King marries his new Queen; she stabs him in his sleep and destroys the kingdom. Snow is then a prisoner in Ravenna’s castle for years, until one foolish mistake lets her escape and venture out for a thrilling, frightful experience. Ravenna needs Snow’s heart to make her young for eternity, therefore she hires a huntsman (Hemsworth) to capture Snow and kill her. But, when the huntsman finally captures Snow, events don’t go as planned and he got a lot more than he bargained for.

“Snow White and the Huntsman” is a fantasy film, packed with action, adventure and gorgeous scenery. The film takes place in medieval times, where countrymen raise their swords for justice and set out on horseback to fight for freedom. The film is fast-paced and is never dull or boring. Theron is great as the dramatic wicked Queen that will stop at nothing to get what she wants. She is yelling throughout the entire film and the makeup that was created to make her look old and haggard is incredible. She did a fantastic job as the evil, envious Queen. Stewart delivered a fine performance as well. She was strong and vibrant as the pure and small Snow White. Stewart is nothing like Bella from her ‘Twilight’ films, and was quite impressive. Hemsworth was awesome as the Huntsman. He was strong, but there is one scene in the film where he has an emotional breakdown, and his acting in the scene is not only impressive but phenomenal. It’s nice to see an actor play burley, manly roles and then finally see the layers unfold and let his true talent shine. He was a pleasant surprise.
The storyline of “Snow White and the Huntsman” is fun and interesting. There are so many different variations on the tale of Snow White, and this one is definitely worth catching. The only part throughout the entire film that was disappointing was the final scene. The blockbuster flick sets up the audience for this massive dramatic ending, and it was a huge upset. But, it’s still worth watching.
“Snow White and the Huntsman” is highly recommended to anyone who enjoys films set in medieval times packed with intricate characters, fantastic imagery and an exciting story. Also, for anyone who enjoys the classic tales of Snow White, and stories that are filled with hope, love and the belief that good will always conquer evil.
