Classic Holiday films on TV

Everyone’s favorite time of year is finally here. The holidays are fast approaching and what better way to spend the last few weeks of 2013 then snuggling up by the fire with some hot chocolate and holiday movies that the whole  family can enjoy? I’ve checked out the holiday television schedule for the next few weeks and have come up with a great family film for each night, starting this weekend as Santa Claus will soon be on his way.

Sunday December 8, 2013 at 8pm on AMC Home Alonewhich is easily one of my favorite holiday flicks, and the film that proclaimed Macaulay Culkin as one of the biggest child stars of all time. It's about a young boy who is mistakenly left home alone for the holiday and the struggles his family goes through to get home to him while he struggles to keep burglars at bay.

Tuesday December 10, 2013 at 9pm on ABC Family The Year Without Santa Claus an animated film about a disgruntled Santa that contemplates giving up his job oneChristmas Eve, while Mrs. Claus and elves struggle to change his mind.
Wednesday December 11, 2013 at 9pm on ABC FamilyNational Lampoon’s Christmas Vacation starringChevy Chase as the clumsy oddball father Clark Griswold who plans a beautiful Christmas for his family, but nothing seems to go right.
Thursday December 12, 2013 at 9pm on ABC Family Scrooged starring Bill Murray as a selfish, grumpy television executive that is haunted by the ghosts of Christmas past, present and future and the lessons that each ghost teaches him about life.
Friday December 13, 2013 at 7pm on AMC White Christmas starring the talented Bing Crosby in this beautiful Christmas tale of a song-and-dance team striving to save a failing Vermont inn of their former commanding general.
Saturday December 14, 2013 at 8pm on NBC It’s a Wonderful Life If there’s any movie on this list that is a must-see, this is it. Jimmy Stewart stars as a suicidal businessman not recognizing his worth or his blessings. An angel greets him and demonstrates what life would be like if he had never existed.

Sunday December 15, 2013 at 6pm on ABC Family is The Muppet Christmas Carol which is the Muppets’ version of Charles Dickens’ classic story about Scrooge.
Monday December 16, 2013 at 9pm on FOX Ice Age: A Mammoth Christmas Special Manny's heirloom Christmas rock accidentally gets destroyed by Sid who then winds up on Santa's naughty list. He launches a memorable quest to the North Pole to set things right but of course ends up making things much worse. Manny and friends have to come together and save Christmas before it’s too late.
Tuesday December 17, 2013 at 9pm on ABC Family, is The Polar Express a beautiful film about a young boy who lost his belief in Santa Claus and Christmas, until he embarks on a miraculous journey aboard the magical train ride to the North Pole.

Wednesday December 18, 2013 at 7:30pm on ABC Family Mickey’s Christmas Carol is Disney’s version of Charles Dickens’ timeless classic tale.
Thursday December 19, 2013 at 8pm on ABC Charlie Brown Christmas the story from Charles M. Shulz, focusing on young Charlie Brown searching for the true meaning of Christmas with a little help from his friends.
Friday December 20, 2013 at 8pm on FOX Happiness in a warm blanket Charlie Brown although not exactly a holiday film, I thought this was the best film playing for the whole family this night. This film focuses on Linus’s obsession with his security blanket and how he can’t depart from it.
Saturday December 21, 2013 at 8pm on ABC I want a dog for Christmas Charlie Brown is the third film in a row of the Peanuts gang this week. This film centers on Linus and Lucy’s younger brother Rerun and how he longs for a dog on Christmas. The gang decides Snoopy’s brother may be the best gift for him.

Sunday December 22, 2013 at 7pm on ABC Family How the Grinch Stole Christmas focuses on a miserable, bitter grinch that can’t handle the happiness that surrounds him when Christmas is almost here. He devises up a plan to steal Christmas away from the Whos of Whoville in hopes to make everyone upset. This holiday classic is a live action film starring Jim Carrey as the title role.
Monday December 23, 2013 8pm on TCM Meet Me in St. Louis starring Judy Garland as Esther Smith a 17 year old girl who falls madly in love with the boy next door, but problems arise when her father’s job gets transferred and the Smiths have to leave St. Louis.
Tuesday December 24, 2013 all day long marathon on TBS A Christmas Story it would truly amaze me if you haven’t seen this holiday classic. It has been running marathons on Christmas Eve into Christmas Day for years. The film focuses on a young boy, Ralphie (Peter Billingsley) who dreams of getting a Red Rider B.B. gun for Christmas, but unfortunately everyone that he tells what he wants for Christmas, opposes his wish.
